In a couple weeks, my friend Christina and I will swim 11 miles, a feat neither of us has ever done. Christina named it the “Swim of Hope.”
I take my inspiration for this swim from my friend Christina who created it on behalf of our friend Keith, who is living with hope and pancreatic cancer. We are swimming and fundraising for Keith’s chosen charity, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Last weekend, my family held services for my sister, on Aug. 20, 2021, and my father, on Aug. 21, 2021. My father received his diagnosis in May and died in August 2020. My sister received her diagnosis just before Dad died, and she died in January 2021.
I will also swim in honor and memory of my sister and my father. When the swim gets tough–and it will–I will think of your support; and, I will remember how valiantly my loved ones lived with pancreatic cancer.
Any way you choose to offer your support is most appreciated. You may make a monetary donation on this page. You could also buy a Team Hatch T-shirt (also at the link at the end of this post.) Your purchase funds will go to PCAN.
In our dream scenario, people will show up–wherever you are–on Sept. 14, 2021, wearing your T-shirt. If you are on the West Coast or in Paris or Africa, I’d love it if you’d wear a Team Hatch T-shirt that Tuesday. We expect to start our swim at 11ish a.m. EDT. I am a slower swimmer than Christina; our finish times will be different. If you are in RI, please join us on the shore at 6ish p.m. We’ll have a bonfire and food. We’d love to see you there wearing purple and cheering for Keith. He will be on Christina’s support boat.
Thank you for your kind attention and whatever contribution you choose to make.
With love, and in hope, always,
Cheryl
