I just spent a glorious hour via Zoom with some fabulous first-year high school journalism students talking about portraits and sharing my work–and lessons learned the hard way. I have to say, it was great to be in a classroom again–even virtually. It was also great to sort through images that I made early in my career and discover that I love the choices I made as a human being and a photographer.
I’ve spent so much time alone these past eight months, I’m about to cry at how happy (and sad) I feel at the time and stories I shared with these beautiful young people. If you are feeling a bit sad or despondent or deflated these days, find some beautiful young people and listen to them tell their stories and ask questions. It’s good for the heart. And our whole wide world.
